Looking at multiple websites and sources, to gain more accurate results, I researched what were the most popular genres of the decade
As you can see from my research Drama was the most popular genre of the decade.
Then as a group we created our own questionnaire
We gave out 17 questionnaires and the results we received back were varied. Out of the 17 people who answer our questionnaires 8 of them were in the 11-20 age range. This age range's most popular film genre was either a comedy or a musical. The majority of the people in this age range said they enjoyed this genre because they have interesting storylines that they can relate too. The people in this age group said their least favorite film genre was war and sci-fi. The people we asked also told us that they attend the cinema once a month or rarely and would all go with friends rather then alone. Because most of the people in this age group said that comedy was their favored genre, 11-20 will properly not be our target audience.
The next age range was 21-40. The people in this age group said that their favored, and most popular genre of film in this category was action and mystery, generally because it keeps them interested and takes them away from their regular life. They expect the title sequence to include an introduction to the film as well as presenting the names of cast and crew. The least favorite film genre overall is rom-com for mails and horror for females. This audience told us that they tend to go to the cinema once a month with friends.

The final age range we asked was 41. This category were split on their favorite genre between thriller and musicals telling us that they like musicals because they are they are cheerful, with good entertainment value and they like thriller due to its compelling story line. This audience generally expects the same things in an opening sequence as the 21-40 year olds.

Because both 21-40 and 41+ said they enjoyed mystery and thriller, and films in the crime genre generally hold the same quality’s as both these genres, we will be targeting our film at a 21- middle age audience, in order to gain the widest audience.
